Typical Characters

Typical Characters of the Drama Genre

The protagonist
  • Audience feels sympathetic towards the journey they face
  • Always brave and determined with a desire to overcome
  • Out against 'trails' to expose the character to the audience
  • Conventionally male (but an increase in female leads)
The Antagonist
  • Goes to extreme lengths to get what they want (crime, violence, death)
  • Selfish, only looks out for themselves
  • Feel little empathy towards protagonist, who they are often in a feud with
To a certain extent our protagonist is also our antagonist. Although the crimes  she is committing is for a good cause, she is breaking the law and causing other people distress. The conflict usually apparent between the two characters ,in our film, is the fact that she is toying in her own mind as to whether she can justify her actions to herself, to make money in this way.
The Helper
  • Best friend/loyal to the protagonist
  • Usually aids them on their quest
Although our protagonists' ill sister is not introduced until the end of the film, she is presented in her sisters' thoughts. Therefore, although not meaning to aid her, she is the reason why she has turned to crime. Therefore, although not a positive outcome from her aid, it does make her sister a good person for caring so much.
