Radio Trailer Script

Radio Trailer Script

The whole aim of a radio trailer is to sell your film without the audience seeing any footage. Therefore, we will use selling points in order to make our film more appealing to watch. Such as:
  • "A DREAM production presents a film like no other..."
We also need to hint at the content of our film too and so we will use quotes such as:
  • Conversation from the hospital scene
  • "Give that back"/"Stop her" - to show the fact that she steals things/does crimes
  • Our ultimate selling line (that is also included on our poster) is "How far would you go for someone you loved?" This will be said by Destiny.

Now You See Me

Genre: crime, mystery, thriller

Four magicians each answer a mysterious summons to an obscure address with secrets inside. A year later, they are the Four Horsemen, big time stage illusionists who climax their sold out Las Vegas show with a bank apparently robbed for real. This puts agents Dylan Rhodes of the FBI and Alma Dray of Interpol on the case to find out how they did it. However, this mystery proves difficult to solve even with the insights of the professional illusion exposer, Thaddeus Bradley. What follows is a bizarre investigation where nothing is what it seems with illusions, dark secrets and hidden agendas galore as all involved are reminded of a great truth in this puzzle: the closer you look, the less you see.

Now You See Me radio trailer:

The radio trailer for this epic film consists of intense music, amazing reviews, start rating and alluring quotes from the movie.

The intense, fast paced music are a representation of the film and its genre. It sets the film as being a face paced action film that maybe work on a deadline. This is gripping and attention grabbing, this helping to sell the film to listeners. In our film radio trailer, music would be an excellent way to illustrate the main points of the film. The crime aspect could be portrayed using fast paced music like this trailer. The pace and tone of the music could soften when the trailer gives a reason for her criminal action, to help save her sister. This would be gripping and interesting for listeners and help to sell our film.

The main features of the film are highlighted in the radio trailer with the use of the music and quotes from the film its self. The best example of this is where the word “Magic” is emphasised with by the music. As the music becomes more intense in introducing the film, it suddenly stops when this word is mentioned, highlighting and bringing attention to it. It acts as an answer to areas of the film mentioned in the beginning of the trailer, and helps to intrigue audiences. In our film, we could use this technique to sell our film. We could use aspects of the film, such as the main characters steeling and committing continual acts of crime, but it I to help someone she loves. This would probably be our main point of interest for our film radio trailer as it is interesting and intriguing for listeners.

Comments and reviews about the film are included in the radio trailer, the film is reviewed as being “original, exciting and unpredictable”. For our film’s radio trailer, we could interpret this method as it would be a successful way to sell our film. However, we would have to use comments and reviews from the finishing product of the film, when it is published online, which would mean the trailer would have to be published after the film is.

Other parts of this film trailer that are successful techniques that we would look at using in our own radio trailer are the start rating of the film, showing how others view the film, and also stating “in cinema’s now” at the end of the trailer. This would make audiences think ‘its in the cinema, we should watch it now!’. We could use ‘out soon’ or mention the release date.

Another feature in this film trailer is the mentioning of the title, only at the end of the trailer. This creates tension to know what the film is. It also emphasis the title, making it seem like it is being shouted at the listener.

Delivery Man
Genre: comedy, drama

David Wozniak is a man who is irresponsible and unreliable which doesn't exactly endear him to his family and his girlfriend. And when she tells him that she's pregnant, she tells him, she plans to do it on her own because she can't count on him. One day a lawyer shows up and talks to him about the fact that twenty years ago he was a sperm donor for about a year and his sperm was used to father over 500 children. And now over 100 of them want to know who he is but because he signed a confidentiality agreement, they can't be told who he is. So they are going to court to try to get the confidentiality set aside. His lawyer tells him that they can win this. But when the lawyer who saw him gives him info on the ones who want to see him, he takes a peek at one and decides to go see him and not tell him he's the father. He then goes out and checks out some of his other children and doesn't tell them who he is and connects with them. His lawyer tells him it could jeopardize their case, especially since he can get a big settlement which he can use to pay back some people he borrowed from who "tell" him to pay or else.

In this trailer, the main actor’s name is mentioned. This is done as an extra selling point of the film. Having a well known actor or actress in the film benefits the film as fans of this star.

Typical Characters

Typical Characters of the Drama Genre

The protagonist
  • Audience feels sympathetic towards the journey they face
  • Always brave and determined with a desire to overcome
  • Out against 'trails' to expose the character to the audience
  • Conventionally male (but an increase in female leads)
The Antagonist
  • Goes to extreme lengths to get what they want (crime, violence, death)
  • Selfish, only looks out for themselves
  • Feel little empathy towards protagonist, who they are often in a feud with
To a certain extent our protagonist is also our antagonist. Although the crimes  she is committing is for a good cause, she is breaking the law and causing other people distress. The conflict usually apparent between the two characters ,in our film, is the fact that she is toying in her own mind as to whether she can justify her actions to herself, to make money in this way.
The Helper
  • Best friend/loyal to the protagonist
  • Usually aids them on their quest
Although our protagonists' ill sister is not introduced until the end of the film, she is presented in her sisters' thoughts. Therefore, although not meaning to aid her, she is the reason why she has turned to crime. Therefore, although not a positive outcome from her aid, it does make her sister a good person for caring so much.

Teen Dramas

Mise-en-Scene & Cinematography of Teen Drama's
Mise-en-Scene
  • Dull lighting and colours of setting - suggests bad thoughts of characters and dark storyline
  • Alcohol/drugs - at age which they experiment
  • Guns/Knives - only in very 'nitty gritty' teen dramas.
As our protagonist is both a teen AND a criminal, these could be included in our film to represent the dark and dangerous lifestyle she has chosen.
Setting
  • Flats/apartments (usually small and untidy) - suggests they are newly independent
  • Estates/'ghettos' - communal feeling if many characters
We could go one of two ways with our storyline. Either, she could still live at home, which increases secrecy of crimes, as she has to hid them from parents. Or she could live in a small, one bedroomed apartment, surrounded by all the things she has stolen.
Costume
  • Modern/Trendy - if normal teens
  • Worn out, untidy, 'chav' clothing - used in more gritty films
Although one sister will be in a hospital gown, to show she is ill, the criminal sister will wear big clothes to hide herself and also to represent her big secret.
Sound
  • Lots of dialogue
  • Moving/emotional ambient music - to evoke a certain emotion from the audience
  • Narration - to show hidden feelings
We'll definitely use lots of ambient music in our film to create empathy for the sisters. Furthermore, a narration could show the indecisiveness and guilt of the criminal sister.
Cinematography
  • A range of very close to very far away shots - represents intensity and distance of a character
  • Low and high shots - to show superior/inferior characters
In our film, we could change from high angle shots of the protagonist when she is partaking in crimes, to level shots when the audience realises why she's done it.

Title Sequence Insperation

Hot Tub Time Machine Title Sequence

This title sequence is something we could replicate, however change the mood and atmosphere to change the images that are being shown.

The nature of the images could be changed. For example photo's of the characters childhood memories could be created using Photoshop to create a sense of a happier past and sadness.

To amplify this a soundtrack in a minor key would further create a sense of foreboding as the audience will assume the nature of the film instantly. The tone and atmosphere of the film will have quickly been established through just the use of images and sound being combined.

Furthermore, when editing on final cut, we will be able to layer titles of cast members and the production team creating a professional finish and overall appearance to the film.

Film Poster Individual Research

The Refinery are an American company who produce film posters. They created posters for large films for example Water for Elephants. Their large scale advertising campaign was used by the producers of the film to advertise the release of the film.

The use of layers is something we could replicate in our own film. Each layer hints at the plot line of the film for example the character august in the background looking at Marlena and Jacob suggesting there may be conflict between the others.

This is also emphasised by the use of colour, being bright next to the Elephant , Rosie and dark next to the character August suggesting the stereotypical conventions of good and bad.

This is something we could consider as the difference between good and bad and peoples motives for their behaviour is blurred in our plot. The use of colour could emphasise the moral issues in our plot.

The graphics such as font type are relative to the time period, this is something we could include perhaps creating a signature font that could be identified easily and memorably to the film.

As this is a film produced by a mainstream company established actors have been used. This can be something to attract audiences and we need to create an guarantee that the film will be worthwhile watching. This could perhaps be done through reviews and ratings.

Filming Day

Today we managed to film several scenes on location. We were filming the house break-in scene. Initially, it took us a while to begin filming
